There is really no true way to fill-in Gmail from Gmail.  You are better off just using Outlook, or another email program to shop them in.

Yea that'south essentially what I've done is to setup an imap connection in outlook to gmail.

Withal, since my initial mail I've downloaded thunderbird as it has an importexporttool (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools)  that will consign the files and give an alphabetize of the files. And so I'm hoping this solution will be a bit better. My scope I accept most 16K emails with in the specified date range.

Never used thunderbird before, simply it allows me to create a few different filters... I think this might be one of the best solutions. I will post more than once it is done downloading the 36K emails to tell you how it worked.

All you have to exercise is supply the emails. Its upwards to the lawyers to get the info out . Unless the specified the format I run into no restriction on how yous deliver the information, as long as the its transferred to them securely (encrypted usb etc) and so if they loose it transit youve no privacy improvement.

You are running IMAP.  IMAP is designed to open a mailbox on a remote server.

Y'all should attempt POP3.  POP3 is designed to pull your email from a remote server and store it locally.  That is what yous said you want to do.

Yous could take POP3 download your mail service and _leave a re-create on the server_.  Yous could then have the local copy, remove your credentials and then information technology tin can no longer connect to the gmail mailbox,  and delete everything that is not relevant, leaving in the local re-create but what you need.

Bold yous are running Google Apps for Business (for Edu, or for Gov), you accept a few options:

  • For each account, y'all can connect MS Outlook using Google Apps Sync for MS Outlook (GASMO).  One time connected, set the cache size to unlimited.  You lot can then "fill-in" the data using the normal Outlook tools, creating a PST file.
  • You can utilise Snapshot (https://world wide web.backupify.com/costless-tools/snapshot-google-apps), a free tool from Backupify
  • Yous can install Backupify, what for the first backup to run, and so export each inbox you need
  • Y'all tin can install Google Apps Vault, which volition vault all data currently in your accounts.  You can so create an export, forth with an audit report.

How did you decide to pull information technology down?

I downloaded Thunderbird per SafetyPatrol'due south suggestion, configured the mail for pop, and permit it download. So I discovered the import/consign tool improver https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools It exported the email quite nicely with an index of all the files and attachments to it, along with the emails in html form which also had a linked reference dorsum to the attachment.

I was hoping thunderbird would index all of the emails nonetheless there is a limit to this in thunderbird so I wasn't able to filter them with fundamental words I was looking for. And then I ended up just exporting all of them with in a specified date range.

Absurd. I figured you lot could practise it via POP3.

I gear up a macro at IFTTT.com to automatically back up all of my gmail attachments (every bit I receive them) to a single folder on my google drive. Although this doesnt dorsum up the actual gmails, only the attachments. And information technology doesnt do the attachments from sometime emails unless you open those emails. I like it because I can find all my recent attachments in one place without having to piece of work out which email the attachment was linked to
